This is a project that I have been working on for quite some time, along with Martha Solomon, a wonderful filmmaker, activist and friend. They are portraits of women who have had abortions, an incredibly common medical procedure. The silence and stigma still attached to abortion keeps many women from talking about their experience. This project was an attempt to break the silence, to honour these experiences and to support one another.
These are just a few of the women that I photographed from across the country. The project was published in the Globe and Mail, received funding from the Ontario Arts Council and has been exhibited across the country.
